A Great Way to Take Advantage of the Eco-Friendliness of Bamboo!

Posted

We're all aware that the Earth is warming, resources are vanishing, and our planet needs as much help as each of us can muster to contain the damage. More and more people are recycling, conserving water and finding ways to re-purpose everyday items in order to reduce waste. One resource that is still being depleted far too quickly is wood from our forests. Forests absorb carbon dioxide and purify the air we breathe, and that's just one of the many ways they enrich our planet. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out that we've got to find alternative resources. One alternative that we're beginning to use more and more is bamboo.

Bamboo is an amazing renewable resource. Asians have used it for years for cooking, construction, medicine and textiles. We Westerners have only recently begun to fully realize the eco-friendliness of Bamboo. Did you know that bamboo is one of the fastest growing plants in the world? Once harvested, bamboo can replenish itself in a year, unlike our forests which take decades to recover. It also grows without pesticides (it's naturally pest-resistant) and needs very little water to thrive! Contrast that to cotton, which needs extensive spraying and water to thrive. And if that's not enough to convince you, bamboo absorbs more carbon dioxide from the air and releases more oxygen than either wood or cotton! It's also 100% natural and biodegradable. It's like the Superman of the plant world!

At Tie Your Socks, all of our socks are made from bamboo fibers. So aside from looking great, you'll also be doing a little something to help the planet every time you wear them. How cool is that?
